Celebrating an Organization’s Anniversary with Kudoboard

Thousand Currents (thousandcurrents.org) is a nonprofit that funds and develops long-term relationships with visionary grassroots groups led by women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples in the Global South. According to their website, “For more than 30 years, Thousand Currents (formerly IDEX) has invested in more than 750 community-led initiatives in the Global South. Today, [they] are exchanging grassroots brilliance for lasting and transformative change, working with over 2 million women, small farmers, Indigenous Peoples, urban residents, sexual and ethnic minorities, and youth.”

To recognize the organization’s 32nd birthday, Thousand Currents used a work anniversary Kudoboard internally to share a few memories, moments, and wishes for the future among their remotely based team.  These included GIFs, photos, and messages such as this one:

“WOW! 32 Years? Everyday with Thousand Currents has been a joy and an incredible learning experience. I am deeply grateful to know the amazing people TC has recognized for their courage and fearlessness. BRAVO!”

Thanks to Thousand Currents for letting us share their story, and from all of us here at Kudoboard – Happy 32nd  Birthday!

Farewell Group Card to a Colleague

Yilma Muluken was a much loved team member from the @actionaid organization, working from Ethiopia.  When Yilma decided to move on, his team created a Kudoboard expressing their appreciation for his contributions over the years.  A few excerpts dedicated to Yilma:

“We met at several occasions. The most memorable time was in Ethiopia in March this year. The workshop and field visit would not have been possible without your support and dedication to make it happen and make it go smooth! Thank you for this and the other countless times you have been of great support and inspiration!”

“It has been a great pleasure working with you. Though you are leaving AA, I will still be in touch, I have added one more friend to visit when I come to Ethiopia! I hope you are going to something good and wish you all the best in whatever that might be.”

“You were one of the first people I met within the broader ActionAid Federation and I will be forever grateful for your patience in answering all my questions as we journeyed together in Nepal. Your kindness, patience, inquiring mind, depth of knowledge and smiles for miles will be my fondest memories of working with you over the past few years. “

From these and many more messages found on Yilma’s board, it’s clear he will be greatly missed as he moves on from ActionAid.  A huge thanks to you for all your work, Yilma, and thanks for giving us permission to share your board!

Saying Happy Birthday to a Mentor with Kudoboard

Mark Conger is a lecturer in mathematics at the University of Michigan and the creator of the Douglass Houghton Scholars Program (DHSP), an opportunity for freshman to tackle challenging calculus problems while building a small community within a large university.

As Mark celebrated his 50th birthday this year, nearly 200 contributors (including past students, friends, and family) wished him well with Kudoboard.  The gratitude that students expressed to Mark for his mentorship and guidance over the years, in particular, was quite remarkable.  Here’s an excerpt from one such student, Jenna Endsley:

“Joining DHSP was easily one of the best decisions I made when coming here. You’ve impacted my life and the lives of all the students who have been lucky enough to have you in such a huge way. I am so incredibly grateful for everything you go out of your way to do to help me and all of your other students follow their dreams. Thank you for your relentless generosity, kindness, and selflessness. I hope you have the best birthday you could imagine, because no one truly deserves it more than you! :)”

Celebrating a Work Anniversary with Kudoboard

Angela Goodwin’s colleagues at ParentMap recently created her a Kudoboard for her 3rd Year Work Anniversary with the company.

Highlights include a Grumpy Cat meme, a baby Penguin with tophat, and a terrific GIF that we can only assume is a young, animated David Hasselhoff.

“We love using Kudoboards to celebrate work anniversaries and various achievements [at ParentMap]!” said Angela. “We are a virtual business so it makes getting personalized messages to send all in one place incredibly easy. Way more festive than an email. Love it!”

Condolences From a Group with Kudoboard

When Lori R.’s mother passed away, her online community created a Kudoboard to express their support during a difficult time.  Here is a sampling of the posts:

“Lori, we are so very sorry for your loss. I know the road ahead won’t be easy but always know you are not alone. You have friends and family who are so very proud of the love, courage, determination, and strength you showed in caring for your mom. You will be in our thoughts and prayers everyday.”

“Lori, You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. You are an incredible daughter, wife and friend. I hope you get much comfort from these notes. There are many of us out here that have you in our hearts. May peace be with you today and always.”

“The loss of a parent is indescribable. Getting to know you and your story through our little YRR family really shows what true strength you possess and the love you have in your heart for everyone. Even with the holidays, it’s never a good time for this type of loss, but please try and take sometime for yourself. Self care is so important right now. My thoughts, my players and my love are with always.”

When Lori received the board, she described her reaction:

"At one of the lowest points of my life friends I could never get in touch with on my own showed me so much love and support…It truly made a difference in my life!“

Season’s Greetings to the Frimley Park NICU Staff with a Kudoboard Group Card

The Frimley Park Neonatal Intensive Care Unit recently received a holiday Kudoboard from parents that we received permission to share.  With photos and stories dating back years, the notes of gratitude on this particular Kudoboard are truly inspirational.  A few snippets:

“Many thanks to all the wonderful staff in the NICU….Now you can see [my son] is a fully fledged five year old now up to no good and he always loves hearing the tale of how he was the size of my hand.”

“There are times in life where the words thank you seem so inadequate in their ability to convey the level of gratitude you have for someone or a group of people based on what they have done for you. This is one of those times.”

“The words we all have are never enough to explain the fear the pain the love the gratitude the immense feelings of joy”

“We spent five weeks in neonatal with our twins who made an early appearance at…Now at nearly a year and half old my baby’s are thriving and hitting mile stones and no one would ever know the struggles they once had.”
