Celebrating Our Women in Medicine

Jump To:

With Doctor’s Day fast approaching and Women’s History Month in full swing, it’s important to make space to acknowledge the women in medicine. While historically a male-dominated field, women in recent decades shaped the future of healthcare—both in the operating room and in the boardroom.

While some obstacles remain, women continue to leave a lasting impact on the medical profession. They advance ground-breaking research, revolutionize patient care, and more, inspiring future generations to dream bigger. Their work contributes to the growing number of women entering the field and pursuing careers as doctors.

To recognize the women studying medicine as well as those molding the next generation, John Hopkins created a Kudoboard for their staff and students. With messages of appreciation and support, the board offers a unique perspective on Women’s History Month, Doctor’s Day, and beyond.

    Recognizing the Future of Healthcare

The John Hopkins board, Celebrating our Women in Medicine, encourages staff and students to acknowledge an exceptional woman in healthcare through posts. Contributors can share photos, stories, accomplishments, and words of appreciation for the mentors, educators, or trainees that they find inspiring. Once completed, John Hopkins will use the Kudoboard to recognize during Women’s History Month and at an upcoming event.

To encourage participation, their leadership offered prizes to the top two divisions with the highest participation. Given the occasion and the incentive, it’s no surprise that they saw countless thoughtful and heartfelt contributions.

Some of our favorite messages about women in the John Hopkins community are:

“Thank you to our great women leaders. I’ve met so many of you in the past couple years, and I am in awe and gratitude for the great work that you do for our patients, our learners, each other, and innovative research.”

“You are the anchor of our division, taking care of our most vulnerable patients. You never say no when asked for help. It is such a pleasure to work with you.”

“Thank you for your inspiring patient care and also for your dedication to diversity and medicine. I wish I had more opportunities to work alongside you, as your clinical care is fantastic. I definitely appreciate inheriting your admitted patients the next day.”

“Thank you for your commitment to fostering a culture of collaboration and clinical excellence in the medical family. You are often one of the clinicians that stays late with me writing notes, and I greatly appreciate your friendship.”

“Your compassion, empathy, and leadership skills create an environment for collaboration within the group. Thank you for considering our interests and advocating for women’s needs.”

Bringing Visibility to the Women in Healthcare

Through boards for the healthcare industry, Kudoboard empowers doctors present and future to recognize and appreciate those around them. By celebrating kindness, dedication, talent, and support, their messages shine a light on the inspirational women in medicine.

By using a Milestone board, John Hopkins has unlimited room for messages from their community and the slideshow abilities to display posts at an event. With over 279 contributions and counting, it’s safe to say the school has a vibrant culture of appreciation—and a talented group of young future doctors.

This month, create a board to encourage your staff to recognize the exceptional women in medicine. Incentivize contributions, collect posts, and share thoughtful messages to bring awareness to build culture at your healthcare organization.
